Thomas Lochrie
Thomas Lochrie was born in Scotland in 1871. He came to America with his mother and family in 1880, his father having crossed the ocean a year previous.
Settling in Houtzdale, Clearfield County, PA., he attended the public schools
until he was about 14 years of age, when he entered the mines there in the
Gross Run drift and for 13 years worked for the various mining firms operating in that region. After leaving Houtzdale Mr. Lochrie spend a year in Indiana County in connection with mines. Leaving there he went to Patton, where he was for two years in the employ of the Bloomington Coal Company, leaving to accept a position in Johnstown, PA. With the Cambria Iron Company, where he remained one year and after returning a second time to Indiana County for a year he located in Windber in 1897, entering the employ of the Berwind-White Coal Mining Company, opening Mine 31, and helping to ship the first car of coal that left Windber.
In 1899 Mr. Lochrie took charge of the Grand Central Hotel and is its
present efficient and courteous proprietor.
The Grand Central is located on Graham Avenue, between Fifteenth and
Sixteenth streets. It is a commodious building, entirely new, 40x60,
containing 32 rooms. It is modern in all its appointments, furnished with
every modern convenience, heated by steam, electric lighting, hot and cold
water, bath rooms, perfect ventilation and the sanitary conditions are of the
best.
The table is liberally furnished with the best in the market and every
effort is made to see that guests receive prompt and courteous service. The
bar is stocked with the best of wines and liquors and cigars of high grade.
Nothing is left undone to make the hotel first class in every particular.
As landlord Mr. Lochrie is the same courteous, affable gentleman of old.
Unpretending and retiring, but urbane in his manners, he is a model citizen and has an army of friends.
Mr. Lochrie was married in 1895 to Miss Hannah Estep of Johnstown, PA.
One child- a little boy - was born to them in 1897.

Buys Grand Central
Thomas Lochrie Sells the Good Will and Fixtures of His Hotel to W.H. Evans
W. H. Evans purchased the good will and fixtures of the Grand Central
Hotel from Thomas Lochrie, and took possession Monday.
We understand that ex-proprietor Lochrie contemplates moving to Berlin,
where he will engage in the same business. Mr Lochrei is one of the town's
earliest hotel men, having came here when the town was in its infancy and
erected the hotel which has flourished under his management. Mr. Evans
until recently was proprietor of Hotel Evans, in East End, but sold his
interests in that hostlery to Albert Gohn, and needs no introduction to our
readers, as he is an up-to-date hotel man. Success all around.
Windber Era - Feb 4, 1910
Windber- Grand Central Hotel, Graham Avenue and 16th street, has been sold by Thomas Lochrie to Frank Tarr., who has conducted the hostelry for the past
five years. The consideration was $20,000. Mr Lochrie built the Grand Central about 11 years ago. He now is interested with his brother Hugh, in the coal business in butler county.
